The ABC's of Spring 2011

For those of you reading this in Kingston, you could very likely be looking out your window to the sight of rain. Lovely, beautiful, glorious rain (no sarcasm). I say this in all seriousness because the sight of rain can only make one hopeful that spring will soon be here and allowing us to finally shed the arctic worthy layers we have been hiding under for months.

So, here are my ABC's of Spring 2011. Consider this a sort of cheat sheet covering the key pieces and trends (both fashion and beauty) we fashion girls have to look forward to this spring season.

A seasonless classic, the animal kingdom has once again inspired spring fashion.

Boho-chic returns in drapey, romantic styles with a touch of modernity

Incorporate texture with 70's inspired weaving in calming hues
of blue, stone and rose pink

If there were ever a denim-centric season, this is the one.
Look out for denim in every form - from dresses and handbags
to schoolgirl oxfords

There is a lot more alphabet to get through fashion girlies, so make sure to read
everyday to see the rest of my top Spring '11 trends!

Friday Fixations

Another weekend is near and one can't help but feel a little optimistic when the snow outside is slowly beginning to melt and spring fashion is creeping into store fronts. Walking down the street amidst grey skies and blustering winds, nothing really quite puts a smile on this fashion girls face like the seemingly heavenly bright lights that shine in store window displays showing off pretty spring florals, skittle coloured flats and handbags we will inevitably fill with our lives. Also, as I have mentioned before, while I am "makeup challenged" I have a steady hand when it comes to a bottle of polish and have already started wearing the spring brights shown below. Here are a few things to make you want spring to come even faster!

Happy Friday!!

Bill Cunningham New York Trailer

The September Issue. The Last Emperor. And now Bill Cunningham New York. A documentary following the legendary photographer, who's photographed everyone from Anna Wintour to Annabella Blow to those who inspire him most - us. "Us" meaning those who "perceive fashion as the armour to survive everyday life".

Not only does this film capture the genius of the original sartorialist, watching him as he runs through rainy crosswalks through the heavy foot traffic, but it also draws in audiences to learn about who Mr. Cunningham is aside from fashion. A somewhat painful introvert who has been so involved with his work he has never had a romantic relationship.

It's All About the ROSEGOLD

I remember seeing these lovelies back in New York City when I was ordering with head mama felicity&fritz back in the summer. To say that these will soon (already are!!) a part of my spring shoe collection would be nothing short of obvious.

Valentine's Day Lovin'

Let it be known - I am a big supporter of Valentine's Day. Yes, you should show your love everyday but to devote and entire day to love?! - why would anyone want to oppose that?!

With the pretty hearts and flowers everywhere you look, I couldn't help but ask a those around me what they think L - O - V - E really is.

What is love?
"Love is when you dance with someone." - A true romantic at four years old

"Love means that you love someone and that you are married." - A seven year old cutie patootie

"Love means you kiss somebody." - A heartbreaker at four years old

Happy Valentine's Day!! xoxo

Friday Fixations

It's been another busy week of research, report writing and choosing the last of which spring accessories to bring in for our felicity&fritz girls (I will mention now, you should all be excited for what is in store this season!). Still, I have expertly managed to find minutes of to fill with procrastination (a talent really). Here are some snapshots of my weekly fixations.

Blame it on Valentines, but I can't help but feeling a need to
surround myself with beautiful flowers.

J. Crew's spring collection is the epitome of classic HOLLYWOOD style.
Flagging each page of the February 2011 catalogue, I can't help but want to wrap my hair back into a chignon while wearing cat-eye sunglasses and playing Adele on repeat.

Counting down to the February 22 release!!

Happy Friday!

Toes in the Sand

I know I just recently wrote of taking risk with your wardrobe, but really, I can't (and don't expect you fashion girlies either) to be rainbows and unicorns everyday. While neutrals are just that, there are a couple of ways to keep this look current and young.

clothing on model, shoes and handbags all available at felicity&fritz!

Here I've incorporated camels, mochas, sand, dusty roses and golds to create a warm palette that while it has little colour, makes an impact via texture and shine. Another way, of course, to wear your neutrals are to pair them with the seasons boldest jewel tones and neon pigments.

Nella Bella Beautiful

Nella Bella is one of the newest handbag line additions to felicity&fritz. The line not only is fashionable (and fashionably eco-friendly, I may add) but is also functional. A Canadian brand, Nella Bella is an inspired urban chic line that has honed in on accentuating the individual fashion girlies style by showing classic pieces with a twist.

Watch the video to see all the ways you can wear Nella Bella's London Bag
(you'll wonder why you don't have one already in your closet!)

All of the shown styles are now available at felicity&fritz!!

Let Your Fashion Make You Smile

All too often, we fashion girls (or at least this one writing) gets into a fashion rut. You know, ongoing rotation of easy basics - loose knits, soft cardigans/pullovers (often stolen from my brother), ultra skinny jeans and and the same jewelry day after day.

While I blame this Canadian winter for my rut, it truly is a cop out. The true culprit to this rut for us fashion girlies (yes, I am taking the liberty to claim the reason is the same for all you reading) is simply ease. I'm sorry but when I have an ongoing Get-Done List revolving around family, school and work I'm not really thinking about having fun with my wardrobe. (NOTE: This does not mean I am walking around looking like a slob. I would just define my look as of late as...fashionably boring. Yeah. That works.)

So, I vote that we all vow to have more fun with our wardrobes. Mix patterns you would normally think of as absurd, trade your ivory cashmere sweater for one in neon pink, accessorize with different pieces everyday. Rather than coast along, counteract those mundane days with fashion that makes you smile inside and out.

Friday Fixations

Dear Fashion Girls, this week has been one of those that just seems to drag on. It may have something to do with the fact that I have, in essence, been forced to remain immobile due to aggravating my illiotibial band (just google it, the explanation is too long). What seems to have gotten me through however, are my little daily obsessions that make the pain (seriously, I am in pain) of a long work week fade into the background.

My good friend Sam (and our own felicity&fritz girl) has started a blog documenting her love of food. I've already made this recipe of hers and loved it!

Swiss Classic Surfin Dark Chocolate. Just a little bit of wonderful.

Vogue.com  is where you fashion girls should be going to drool (a fashionable drool however)
over the seasons greatest additions.

I've been tweeting fashion girls and I would love if you were following me!

Oh Canada!

Happy snow day everyone! While I suggest not venturing out in these arctic conditions, I highly recommend indulging in these Canadiana fashions. (NOTE: if any lovely fashion girls out there would like to gift me a pair of thigh high thick knot socks and Chanel Abominable Snowman boots - I will gladly accept.)

Chain Chain Chain

Take a cue from Karolina Kourkova on the January 2011 cover of Vogue Spain. I love the outdoors and trekking through whatever mother nature throws out there, but how much more enjoyable would the bugs and the possibility of poison ivy be if you were dripping with the seasons hottest chain accessories? (Fact: I choose to drip in jewels over sweat any day of the week.)
