Cold Shoulder

Let's have a moment for exposed shoulders. They're having a moment you know. Of course you know; you're a fashion girl! They are everywhere from long gowns (like the Ralph Lauren one below) to minis, sweaters, jackets and tops. Unlike the ab busting trend this spring a cold shoulder is not only flattering on any body type but requires no oblique twists, crunches or pilates classes. In short, a cut out shoulder is a sexy twist appropriate for our everydayness.

A Jolt of Fashion

I get jolted by caffeine (Venti Americano anyone?) and exquisite fashion (Thakoon, Alexander Wang, Lagerfeld, Lanvin, the list goes on). Get jolted by the ever-inspiring street-wear photos of Tommy Ton. (also, feel free to show your men these fashion photos. they need some fashion jolting just as much as we do sometimes only they need it more).

Pink Slip

When I think of pink slips, I reminisce of my elementary school peers that would mosey into class late holding that perfectly square piece of paper, looking as though they had just rolled out of their cartoon splattered bedsheets - hair tangled, teeth unbrushed, pajamas as an outfit.

Perhaps designers are making a sartorial statement with the fashionized slippers - paying homage to those snooze-button lovers (you know you're guilty). I don't suggest wearing these bad boys with your pj's or cereal breath but I fully endorse you incoprorating them into your wardrobe.

Try them with a skinny jean. Wear them with tailored trousers. Wear them with a midi skirt. Hell, wear them with a mini skirt! I could go on, but what it comes down to is you should wear them. And you should be wearing them now. Don't be late on this trend or you'll get the slip. (oh, come on. I had to throw the title in somewhere!)

Creamsicle

I read once that the colour orange stimulates one's appetite which is true because I am hungry for this colour. I want this colour splashed on everything I own this spring. Seriously. I mean it. I may dye some of my clothes this colour (currently looking up dye methods). I want orange sandals and frocks, handbags and scarves...and earrings and polish and heels and sunnies and perhaps an actually orange because I will inevitably become famished with trying to search for this tangerine dream.

If you need a hand at how to style this shade, seek inspiration from the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection. Jacobs has warped the familiar into pieces fashion ladies will inevitable covet this season. Mixing vibrant orange with saturated tones of navy blue, hot pink and charcoal - to name a few. Spring and Summer months are those of carefree (or careless) days, and, like I've said before, just enjoy getting dressed in the morning. Don't over think it. Don't be too critical. Remember when you were five and the more colour you could wear at once the better? Think that. And when you're done getting dressed, treat yourself to a creamsicle.

Look Into My Eyes

Ever seen a great pair of blue eyes? Ryan Gosling has 'em. So does Chris Pine, Jude Law and Leonardo Dicaprio....I don't know what I am getting at with this aside from the fact that these men have great eyes and are obviously all dreamy in their own right. Though, I digress. This spring, the classic blue hue has taken on alias' in cyan, blueberry, cobalt and navy tones and is sure to be seen on everythng from handbags and watches to strappy sandals and leggy denim. Sometimes the blues aren't so bad.

No Pain, No Gain

Remember the lyrics to "Baby One More Time"? Yeah, me neither (I'm lying. I know all the words and potentially even the dance moves). But I bet, dear fashion ladies, you remember Miss. Spears' 6-pack abs (Also, do you remember desperately wanting her neon yellow sports bra and deep red track pants? I do. I still maybe, really want them). While the bare tummy fad of the 90's is forever epitomized in the videos of Brit Brit, the SS'12 collections of designers such as Dolce&Gabbana, Bill Blass, Emilio Pucci and Helmut Lang, to name a few, are sure to make you add a couple more crunches to your workouts. It's totally worth the burn though. No Pain, no gain right?

The Grape Escape

Let's all take a moment to thank the Fashion Gods for allowing this grape colour (of course I had to make a pun) to no longer be restricted to those of royal descent. Any shade of purple has always been a personal favourite (check it out here) however, this season's blend of warm and cool hues gives us Grape; a hot hue that is divine at best. Complementing any complexion, grape will/should/must undeniably be an essential in the spring wardrobes of us mere commoners.

While this sultry shade is of course perfect on it's own, it pairs effortlessly with other hot hues of the season like coral, teal, yellow and ivory. Even better? Grape is making its splash on just about any piece of fashion - shoes, blouses, jewellery, blazers, denim and handbags - which means, if you are opposed to eating the healthful grape (though, isn't your resolution to eat more fruit?), at least you can pay an homage in the most fashionable sense.
